The Daily Mile

The Daily Mile is a simple and free initiative for schools which helps improve the social, emotional and mental health and wellbeing of children as well as their fitness. Accompanied by their teacher, every child goes outside for just 15 minutes every day to run or jog, at their own pace, with their classmates - everyone is involved.

The initiative started in Scotland in 2012, and has since spread to 65 countries with almost 10,000 settings signed up. The Daily Mile Foundation - who oversee global expansion of The Daily Mile - is proud to be supported by Eliud Kipchoge, as a Global Ambassador, to help inspire children around the world to be more active.

As part of Eliud’s INEOS 1:59 Challenge, he is working with The Daily Mile Foundation to help get even more schools and nurseries to sign up to the initiative around the world. Like Eliud, The Daily Mile Foundation believes #NoHumanIsLimited and wants to ensure every child, regardless of their age, ability, gender or circumstances has the opportunity to run every day, and enjoy being active outside.

After winning the Virgin Money London Marathon in May 2019, Eliud joined The Daily Mile Foundation team and visited John Henry Newman Academy in Oxford (England), to meet the children and staff. The Academy has been signed up and taking part in The Daily Mile since April 2018 and had the opportunity to do their Daily Mile with Eliud.

It was a wonderful day with the children, who joined in with a ‘Q&A session’ with Eliud, hosted by John Mayock (former-Olympian and British Record holder) and a Trustee for The Daily Mile Foundation. The children were in awe of their idol and asked fantastic questions about footwear, nutrition, sleep and Eliud’s love of running.
